When you are expecting a baby you think that nothing major will go wrong. In most cases that is true. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, and you are suddenly in the terrifying position of not only trying to understand what is wrong with your baby, but how it happened and how or if it could have been prevented.
Too often parents do not understand what has happened to their child, and why. They do not understand what the terminology is, they don’t know if their baby’s injury happened during the pregnancy, labor, delivery process or immediately after the delivery.
If the doctors or nursing staff have made mistakes they rarely if ever take responsibility for their errors and don’t explain what happened. Sometimes the brain damage can’t be avoided. Sometimes it is due to errors by the doctor or nurses.
This site is dedicated to trying to explain some of the basics.
